The final stop before home!! (Sailing Barefeet Ep45)
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.5 лет назад
We leave Fiji and head for New Caledonia, the final country on our adventure before home! It's a fast and furious passage to New Caledonia, not the most enjoyable trip but once we are there we are treated to underwater marina delights in Noumea, white sands and soaring pine trees of Ile de Pine and the sparkling turquoise waters of the south lagoon. A fantastic end to our sailing adventure befo...
Island hopping across Fiji (Sailing BareFeet Ep44)
Просмотров 7775 лет назад
Where we arrive in Fiji is a hotly debated topic, decided enroute to Fiji as these things sometimes are! First off is Savsavu in the island of Vanua Levu, a place where tourists are few and local culture shines (even when the sun doesn't!!). Then it's a few solid days to cross the reef strewn northern coast of Viti Levu, ending up in sunshine, pool time and cocktails of Musket Island. It's a cr...
Hanging with whales in Tonga (Sailing BareFeet Ep43)
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.5 лет назад
It's time to check out Tonga! We spend a few weeks in Vava'u, cruising the protected waterways and beautiful anchorages. We finish our stay with a much-debated humpback whale swim, getting to witness these majestic animals up close while reflecting on the ethics of this type of tourism. Music: Intro: Bumble - Fabulon Body: Rude - Eternal Youth
Sailing the isolated atoll of Suwarrow (Sailing BareFeet Ep42)
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.5 лет назад
After an incredible three months in French Polynesia, it's time to continue west to the Cook Islands. We chose to head to Suwarrow, an isolated and uninhabited atoll in the Northern Cook Islands. Suwarrow is also the largest national park of the Cook Islands, teaming with bird and marine life. It's a challenging week-long sail to Suwarrow, and another week onwards to Tonga, but worth it for the...
Saving the best till last...Bora Bora (Sailing BareFeet Ep41)
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.5 лет назад
The final stop in French Polynesia is the much raved over Bora Bora. With high expectations and a craving for a little sun we sail to Bora Bora...and are not disappointed!! The soaring peaks of Bora Bora make for a spectacular setting from all angles, as we are treated to local Heiva performances, glide along underwater with tropical fish and manta rays and kick back in what is often described ...
Sacred sites, coral gardens and rainy days (Sailing BareFeet Ep40)

After the stunning scenery of Moorea we sail to the Society Islands of Huahine, Raiatea and Tahaa. Rainy weather and strong winds accompany us for most of this time, leading to a few days confined to the boat and rushing to grab the sunshine when it was out to check out the ancient site of Taputapuatea, the brilliant coral gardens of Tahaa and the lush vegetation of Huahine. Exploring the Societies...Tahiti and Moorea (Sailing BareFeet Ep39)
Просмотров 1 тыс.5 лет назад
It's time to explore the Society Islands of French Polynesia, starting with the sister islands of Tahiti and Moorea. We get involved in our first sailing regatta, see amazing local dance performances and swim with the stingrays, while getting to check out more stunning anchorages and island vistas. Cruising the spectacular Tuamotos (Sailing BareFeet Ep38)

Next stop in the Tuamotos after stunning Kauehi is the atolls of Fakarava and Toau, which continue to amaze with crystal waters, vibrant underwater life and dramatic sky-scapes. The Tuamotos quickly becomes our favourite sailing destination of the trip, as we dive, snorkel, spearfish and SUP our way through the turquoise lagoons in this paradise. Marquesas....the most remote islands in the world!! (Sailing Barefeet Ep:36)

We land in paradise after our Pacific crossing and are blown away by the beauty of the Marquesan islands and their people. Our first taste of French Polynesia delivers jaw-dropping vistas, passionate Pentecostal celebrations and the ever welcoming Pacific smiles, as we visit the islands of Nuka Hiva, Hiva Oa and Tahuata. It's time for BareFeet and her salty crew to embark on her longest passage yet...3000nm across the Pacific Ocean from the Galapagos to the Marquesas!! Our Galapagos travels continue to sleepy Isabela island, where we check out all that's on offer from lava tunnel abseiling, to snorkelling with giant sea turtles and climbing volcanoes! It was supposed to be a chilled island experience but we couldn't help wanting to try it all before heading out into the big blue for the Pacific crossing... Music: Intro and Body: Bumble - Fabulon
Seals, seals, seals in San Cristobal!! (Sailing BareFeet Ep33)

Our first stop in the Galapagos is San Cristobal island, where sea lions rule!! They're gorgeous though rather cheeky and we find that trying to outsmart them is futile. San Cristobal is also home to many other intriguing species including land tortoises, marine iguanas and a whole host of incredible sealife which we have opportunity to meet over our visit to this fascinating island. So, 3 years later, has Dave bought a boat yet? He seemed to really love it and dive into cruising! Croatia seems gorgeous. I always wonder how people don't end up spending most of the season just cruising and wandering inland in that one area.

    • @SailingBareFeet
      @SailingBareFeet 5 лет назад

Hi Karen, glad to hear you enjoyed it! The 380 has been perfect for us on our trip and met what we were looking for - a very comfortable boat which was small enough to be easy to anchor, tie up in marinas etc but big enough for ocean crossings...perfect for 2 people! We would definitely echo the sentiment below that a 52 foot would be very hard for 2 people to sail, and also a lot of space for 2 people. Greece highly recommended as a starting point :)
